Runaway snail populations can be controlled with the addition of an Assassin Snail. Often pet store bought plants will have baby snails or snail eggs already on the leaves and these destructive snail populations can quickly grow out of control. This is where the Assassin Snail comes in – it’s an easy-care freshwater snail that is completely harmless toward fish and shrimps, but very effective in reducing nuisance snails. It is also very eye-catching with a yellow and brown striped conical shell.
Assassin Snail are also tolerant of a wide range of water conditions, including ponds and ditches, making them a hardy addition to Avo. Assassins are opportunistic carnivores and will feed on both live prey and scavenged leftovers. They partially hide under the sediment and if a snail slides past they will chase and eat it.
